Want to hear something funny? Today Jon and I spoke at our church's Senior Adults Thanksgiving luncheon, and then we helped serve the lunch. I was spooning up green bean casserole in a line of volunteers. I look at the lady next to me and see what she's serving and say, "I've never seen such big carrots!" She turns to look at me and says, "That's because they're sweet potatoes!" :) Haha! The sweet potatoes were sliced the way carrots are sliced (thin discs), so they looked like slices of big fat carrots to me! :)
If they had been covered with coconut, pineapple, cherries, and pecans, you would have instantly recognized them. Or even with the more common toasted marshmallows on top. The person who cooked the sweet potatoes you saw had no imagination or taste.
ReplyDeleteOf course they had no taste. It was for the senior adults. Not saying that senior adults aren't worth it, but sheeesh! all those diet quirks, it was amazing that they had a dinner to offer at all. We are having to fight and pretty much bring our own turkey to Fort Worth for this VERY reason. Old people are a wonderful gift to society, but dietarily speaking...they have been left behind...
ReplyDeleteBut the funny thing is that they still know how to cook it all! I told the senior adults we ate next to that this was my first Thanksgiving dinner to prepare. I got recipes for everything! But then there was the only lady who said to get it all from Luby's. :)
ReplyDeleteAbnormally large carrots? (spoken in a British accent) Has anyone seen the Wallace and Grommit movie? Well, they have a vegetable competition, so everyone is growing their produce to abnormal size...babying it, petting it, feeding it caviar...anyway, it's just funny.
