Yesterday we had a guy, David, cut our grass. It was a weird feeling, because we're pretty self-sufficient, especially when it comes to paying someone for a service we're perfectly capable of doing ourselves. But, our lawnmower is on the blink, and the back yard was pretty scary. David took a weed eater to it, and had it smooth as a golf course in...well, it took awhile. He also trimmed the tops of our bushes where I can't reach. Now our yard looks very nice. Hopefully the mower will be out of the shop in time for the next trim.
An interesting note: before David left, he asked if he could pray for us. I thought that was pretty neat.
We passed his name on to neighbors, so I hope we can get a little more business coming his way. He lives a couple of blocks over, and just walks around with his tools in his hand, looking for a yard with someone he can talk to (I happened to be outside attacking the bushes). He seems happy to do labor, and thanked God in his prayer for the joy of work. That's a good thought. On that note, I guess I should get back to my own work, eh?
Hippotherapy for James

Contrary to popular belief, "hippotherapy" is therapy using horses, not
hippos.
James LOVES horses, so I was excited to start hippotherapy at Hope Landing ...

We just recruited a lawn guy, too! We had been calling around, but one day I heard a lawnmower going across the street, so I flagged down the guy and asked him to come do ours. Our lawn mower won't start, and John hadn't found time to do it, yet. We might actually keep a yard service... who knows?
ReplyDeleteYea Lyd, glad you found a good guy! And that you weren't alone and he wasn't scary.
ReplyDeleteYou people and your lawn services! You make me laugh! =)
Well, I seriously doubt we'll keep a lawn service, but it was very nice to have it done this time. Jon would not have been a happy man wading through the jungle of a back yard.
ReplyDeleteBut, someday, when my ship comes in, I'll have the whole yard landscaped, and someone will come in to keep my plants alive, because heaven knows I can't! :)
Yes you can...no nonsense of you not having potential to garden. And of course Jon will resume, it's fun! Shoot, someday Tim & I will probably fight over who will mow the lawn...well, I'll let him. But he'll buy me a girlie weed wacker so I can have a contribution. We're both yard folk! I also would like rose bushes, so he doesn't have to keep going to Kroger for them (for ME!) And I love roses. They make me smile. And cut grass smell is the bestest....
ReplyDeleteToo cool that he asked to pray afterwards, what a wonderful ministry opportunity he has. Back home kids would walk around with shovels during snow season. It was always fun to do it ourselves, but others are in situations like you--lack of equipment or unable to. So it's nice those youngin's are looking out for us old folks!
There was a guy who would drive around with a trailer full of lawn equipment at our house in Waco. He invited us to church. These people put me to shame with their evangelism!
ReplyDeleteAnd the phrase "keep a lawn service" sounds funny to me. :)
I'm glad the jungle got tamed. You don't want to invite snakes to a cozy corner of your yard!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think of snakes!
ReplyDeleteI posted my bluebonnet stuff, don't forget your video!
