Initiations, of sorts

The past few days have been a series of initiations in our little family.

For Friday:

The bath is not his initiation. He's had baths since day one.

No, today was the day of the first hairball.

He managed to get it all over himself, hence the bath. But Friday is now a true cat, hairball and all. You'll notice Jon's wet shirt. I remember the days when I could wash Friday holding him in one hand and the soap in the other, but not anymore. Bathtime is a two person job now! He also only required one hand towel to dry off. Now he soaks a full-sized bath towel.

For Jon:

I know this is a picture of Friday again, but he's sitting in what became a barbecue grill. Jon is now one step closer to the American dream: a wife, .3 kids (Friday), and a grill in the backyard. :) Somehow I forgot to take a picture of the grill all put together, but it looks nice and makes good burgers!

For Lydia:

I'm not sure what my initiation is...maybe the first time to cry over a piece of wood? This is what happens when the strap falls off the guitar. It was through no fault of my own, but that didn't make it any less broken. However, a very skilled person is taking care of my guitar now, and it's actually fixable!

So we've got a hairball, a barbecue grill, and a broken guitar. There you have it--an update on our life. :)

Buddy is coming to visit the Norvell Duplex 'o Fun pretty soon! We're looking forward to it, and praying the two cats get along!

  1. See...there are always adventures, new things and blessings in life to look forward to. I am so happy that my friend has such a wonderful family to experience these with.
Keep me posted! I always get a kick out of hearing the latest and greatest...

  2. oh, your poor beautiful guitar!
so sad that it broke. Did you cry?? I certiantly would have...gushed buckets actually.
I got an email that Mary's gift shipped yesterday, so it should arrive in time for Mother's day. Miss yall...when's the next Norvell Sibling get together??

  3. Yes, I cried. And close to buckets. :) It happened right at the beginning of the rehab worship service, and I made Jon feel bad because he wanted to hug me and comfort me, but it was all I could do to keep from crying! And his comforting just made me want to cry more! When the last patient left I finally cried. Sat in the car and bawled. Poor Jon. :)

And yes! We need to get together! :)

  4. Aw how sad about your guitar! I am glad it can be fixed.
Isnt it fun how cats just put themselves in the middle of whatever you are doing? Its like when I packed to go on spring break and buddy got into my suitcases. He doesn't know it yet, but he is very excited to have a kitty friend in the house. :)
    See you soon!

  5. So sorry to hear about the strap; I'm glad you found a way to get it repaired.

Friday's pictures are cute. Congratulations on the hairball incident.

    Jon's cooking burgers? We'll be there! :)

  6. This month's Real Simple is about grilling. I hope to learn some good tips and then convey them to my resident griller.

  7. Barbecue Season Is Coming: A Funny Commentary on Grilling

After 4 long months of cold and winter, we are finally coming up to summer and BBB season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking as it's the only type of cooking a real man will do, probably because there is an element of danger involved. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

    1) The woman buys the food.
    2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
    3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.

    Here comes the important part:

    More routine....
    5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
    6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation.

    Important again:

    More routine.....
    8) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces and brings them to the table.
    9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

    And most important of all:
    10) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
    11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off." And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women...

  8. I love how you include photos with your blog. The guitar looks so sad!

    and Friday is so CUTE!

  9. Friday only counts as .3 of a kid? Surely he requires as much attention as a kid. He goes to the doctor as often as a kid! I'd give him .5 status.
